Bio
I’ve basically been in love with music my whole life…
Well, except that one time when my parents tried to get me to take piano lessons. That didn’t work out very well, as I’ve not typically been able to do things like that on other people’s terms. (By the way kids, I’ve long regretted not sticking with the piano. Don’t make the same mistake!)
Anyway, I picked up the guitar in high school because I had a friend who played and it looked really cool. I remember going into Stacy’s music in Charlottesville to look for a guitar with my parents. I didn’t even know how to hold it, but they bought it for me anyway! (Thanks mom and dad!) My first guitar was a $150 Oscar Schmidt acoustic, and I played the heck out of that thing for my last two years of high school.
Singing has been a part of my life for many years, even before the guitar came along, so it was only natural that when my guitaring progressed far enough I would put the two together.
I started writing songs when I was in high school, because I didn’t feel like I sounded enough like the artists I tried to cover. My theory was that no one could tell me I played a part wrong if I wrote the song!
I started gigging in college and continued during my time in the Air Force, time where I also was part of a large musical ensemble called Tops in Blue, with which I toured the world.
These days I play out for the fun of it (and occasionally a little bit of cash and wine on the side…), at venues that suit my style. These are typically restaurants, vineyards and coffee shops. You can also catch me most sundays at Aldersgate United Methodist Church playing with the praise band.
So that’s the long-winded about me section. I’d love to see you out sometime!
