Since I played there this weekend, and have had several gigs there in the past few months, many people have heard the story of how I first came to be booked at DuCard.

Yesterday, my new found quest for nearby wineries with Norton took me to DuCard Vineyards in Etlan.
I have to admit, in my excitement, I confused DuCard’s location with that of Sweely Estate… Not a big deal, it just left me driving longer than I had initially planned!
Speaking of the drive, it was gorgeous!
The tasting room was also very nice. Apparently it was made largely of reclaimed wood from a barn that had been on the property. It was also sustainable, green, blah, blah, blah.
The tasting was $5 and consisted of 5 wines. 2 whites, 2 reds and a sweet.
The first white was a very dry Viognier. Definitely the dryest I’ve had (not that that’s definitive!). Next was an off-dry Viognier, very similar to the LVD at Keswick.
The first red was a Bordeaux blend. It was fine, but nothing that stood out to me. Of course I was getting ready for the next red…
The Norton, of course! It was very tasty and even better with a bite of dark chocolate. As usual, I’ll hold off on specifics until we get into one of the bottles I took home. (The sweet was a peachy dessert wine.)
It was a very nice place that will look amazing when the leaves start to turn. I’d like to return then…
I only have one real complaint about DuCard. It’s their bottle labels.
They have an excellent, classy logo:

But a much less excellent, classy label:

This wine deserves better!

This, of course is not the end of the story. More to come!
